If you struggle with infertility, you may feel like you’re in a lonely, desert place. But you are not alone!

The Diocese of Allentown and Springs in the Desert are partnering to support couples carrying the cross of infertility with a free event at St. Catherine of Siena Cathedral on Sunday, October 23, 2022. Following Mass with Bishop Schlert at 11:30am, we will share a light lunch, hear inspiring, short reflections from several speakers, and have opportunities to build community with those experiencing a similar season of life.

Wherever you are on the path of infertility, we invite you to join us for this day of prayer, reflection, and community. Come with your spouse or on your own to pray, be uplifted, and experience friendship with others on this same path. This event is also open to friends and family who are looking to support their loved ones.

It is our honor to walk with you!

What is Springs in the Desert?
We’re women and men just like you, with hopes and dreams for a family, but finding ourselves carrying the cross of infertility. In the midst of feeling isolated and alone, we started this ministry and discovered that while our experiences are unique to each of us, the thoughts, emotions and difficulties we’ve encountered are what bind us together. Now, we walk this path together, along with hundreds of other women and couples, to discover the fruitfulness God has planned for all of us!

Who will attend Hope in a Season of Infertility?
Couples and women at all different places on their infertility path. If you are a newlywed, trying to conceive or receiving treatment, taking a break from charting, nearing or in menopause, or anything in between – all are welcome. Come on your own or with your spouse. We also welcome family members interested in learning how to better support those they love who are on this difficult path..

What can I expect from this mini-retreat?
This is your time to let down your guard and share your burdens with others who understand, without fear of judgment. Our Team – Sydnee, Bren, and Ann (with special insights from Dr. Brndjar) – will give reflections on different aspects of the infertility experience, and offer encouragement and some practical suggestions for strengthening your relationship with God and your spouse while acknowledging the unique grief associated with infertility. We will discuss strategies for combating negative thoughts, affirm that we are cherished by God, and consider the unique ways that He is calling us to be fruitful right now!

You are welcome to join us for the Cathedral parish Mass at 11:30 am, and gather in the Cathedral Parish Activity Room (lower level) following Mass. If you won’t be joining us for the liturgy, please come straight to the Cathedral Parish Activity Room. We will be there to greet you starting at 12:30pm.

Infertility is so hard. I don’t know if Hope in a Season is for me.
Yes, infertility is hard. Really hard. And stepping out in faith to talk about it with others – even those who are going through it too – can also be hard. Be not afraid! You will be among friends, and in a safe place to share your heart as little or as much as you feel comfortable. We’ve had people come on retreat who sat in their cars until the last minute, contemplating whether or not to come in. But they took a chance, and found that it wasn’t as scary as they thought! Instead, they felt seen and heard, and shared that it was a positive step toward finding hope and healing.

What if my spouse can’t come?
That’s okay! Don’t be afraid to come on your own . We’re all in this together.

Can my mom, dad, or other family member attend?
Absolutely! Sometimes the people closest to us want to offer their help and support, but they don’t know how. Hope in a Season of Infertility is a wonderful opportunity for them to better understand this experience, and find ways to support those they love, while encouraging them and affirming that their marriages are fruitful right now in many ways.

I have attended infertility support groups in the past but I never got as much out of them as I did in just these few hours with the Springs team!

Thank you to the Springs in the Desert Team for providing a safe, comforting and encouraging place for those who are experiencing infertility.

We love the opportunity to gather and pray with the other couples. We leave inspired by the wisdom they share.
